Zombieland Returns, But Not As a Movie?
I really like zombie movies and Zombieland has always been a favorite. How can you go wrong with Woody Harrelson losing his mind over Twinkies? You can't, and that's just one of the things I loved about the movie. A sequel could be interesting, but a television series leaves me with a lot of concerns.
The good old rumor mill has been working overtime on this one for the last year, but the most current crop of rumors, and these have the feel of truth, say the series will be broadcast on Amazon's instant service. They're trying to get into original programming and this is said to be part of that move.
Okay, Amazon, do your original programming but please, please, please do it right and don't completely neuter the tone of the movie. The movie was off-color and snarky and at times vulgar but mostly it was just a stupid amount of fun. I hope they remember that and, in their effort to prove they can do original content, don't make a wholly original series that forgets its roots.
There's also probably zero chance we'll see the stars of the movie, and this makes me sad. They were a large part of what made it so good. Not just any guy can play all tough and still be brought to his knees over Twinkies. Woody did it, but who could fill those shoes?
A look at the casting sheets shows that the main characters of Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita and Little Rock will all be back. So far, so good. It also looks like the romance between Columbus and Wichita is going to get more attention, which could swing the series either way.
This wasn't a touchy-feely romance. It was a humorous horror movie. If they go too far toward the romance then it's going to ruin the show. I know, it has to change at least a little from the movie, but if they turn it into a zombie romantic comedy I'll never forgive Amazon.
What do you guys think? Are you excited about a Zombieland series? Can it work without the original stars?
