My Little Girls Play "Halo", Get Over It

My kids play Halo 4. One is eight and one is ten and they have a ridiculous amount of fun playing with each other and with their Dad. I don't play with them only because I am terrible at Halo. I've also been schooled by my kids enough times to know a lost cause, but they love the game. They're girls playing a first person shooter, and if I get one more "look" from another parent who disapproves, I'm going to poke their eye out with a stick.

The GeekMoms Podcast #35: Lemelson-MIT InvenTeam Program Inspires Kids To Invent

In this episode, I get to do a face-to-face interview with the kids on the Lemelson-MIT InvenTeam from Nashua North High School in Nashua, New Hampshire. They started working on a bacteria powered battery at the end of last year and have just received a grant to make it a reality. I talk with some of the kids on the team as well as their advisors about how they developed their idea, what they're going to do next, and how other kids can foster their love of science and invention from grade school right through college.

Oreos, What Have You Done?

I admit to being one of those who is sucked right in by the specialness of limited editions, and now Oreo is on to my obsession with their limited edition flavors.

Why I'm Thrilled Disney Bought Lucasfilm

The moment Lucasfilm was purchased by Disney, geeks immediately fell into one of two camps. The first camp thought it was the worst thing to happen since Jar Jar Binks and the second camp thought it heralded a new golden age for the franchise. I've just returned from a vacation at Walt Disney World in Florida and am officially setting up my tent in the golden age camp. Here's why.

Wreck-It Ralph, Kickin' It Old-School

I'm not sure if it was me or my kids who were more excited for this movie. The moment I saw the first trailer, I knew I'd be there opening weekend and I had very high hopes. The trouble with high hopes is that they're often hard to reach. I worried that all the good stuff was in the trailers and that the movie itself wouldn't meet my expectations. Would Wreck-It Ralph deliver? (This post is spoiler-free!)
