Ferris Bueller, Football and Fancy Cars

Next Sunday is the Superbowl. This means nothing to you if you're aren't a football fan, but if you are a fan, then you've likely stocked up on nachos with cheese, beer, and a fantastic assortment of delicious junk food. If you happen to live where this year's two teams hail from, like me, then you can not get away from the Superbowl buzz. I hope the New England Patriots win, but only because I hate to see my brother-in-law cry, and I know that's what will happen if they lose. I'm watching for one thing only this year. That's right, the commercials.

What Happened Lincoln Logs?

A Police Station, Two Jails and Cannons
My Dad was an engineer so I had lots of toys for which building was a part of the playing. We had an infinite number of Legos and Tinker Toys and an Erector Set that sort of scared me in it's complexity. In fact, I don't remember doing much with that one, although I remember my Dad building things. Ah, I see what he did there, sneaky bugger. Even with him stealing my toys, I had a fantastic time building stuff.

Hey Nerf...Where Are The Girls?

This weekend my husband went out with our daughters and bought himself them some new Nerf guns. They did not even remotely need these as we already have enough to equip the entire neighborhood, but that was irrelevant. Why? Because there's this super-cool, new, never before seen, must have technology that shoots little discs instead of the traditional darts. It was inconceivable that he leave the store without equipping the girls with these snazzy new toys. After all, Nerf is a staple in the geek toy arsenal.

To See Underworld: Awakening Or Not?

The first Underworld movie came out way back in 2003 and I couldn't wait to get to the theater and see it's blood-soaked goodness. Just watching the previews, with the guns and the snazzy leather outfits and the angry vampire chick kicking butt, I knew it was a movie I had to see and it lived up to all of my expectations. They came out with a sequel, and although I wasn't as excited I did go see that one, too. It was good, but not as good as the first. And then they came out with another one, and there they lost me.

Threepio, R2 and Calculator Watches

Once upon a time I dreamed of owning a watch that would not only tell time, but have multiple alarms and a calculator that had more functions than I could hope to understand. I remember when calculator watches first appeared and I remember the first kid in school that showed up with one after Christmas. His name was Billy and he rolled his sleeves up just so everyone could see the wonder of his watch. We all crowded around his desk while he showed us how he could easily do complex math. Okay, it was grade school so the math wasn't that complex, but it was cool.
