RoboCop is Just the Start

Paris has the Eiffel Tower, New York has the Statue of Liberty, and now Detroit will have RoboCop.  No, I haven't been drinking anything other than my usual overly complicated yet delicious coffee from Starbucks.  There really are plans to build a RoboCop statue somewhere in the fair city of Detroit.  It started out as nothing more than a blip in the Twitterverse, one the Mayor of Detroit politely refuted, but it became a campaign that has supposedly raised $50K and secured artists and scultors ready to lend their talents.  No one has any idea where they'll put this statue and it remains to be seen if it will actually be built, but the possibilities opened by this project are nothing short of fantastic.

Wonder Woman is an obvious choice since folks are abuzz over the recent announcement that Adrianne Palicki has been cast as Diana in the upcoming TV series.  Now is the time to begin work on a Wonder Woman statue in Washington, DC.  It would be a great location for this star-spangled heroine and her bullet deflecting cuffs, and she'd be a nice break for tourists tired of looking at statues of presidents.  And what more perfect place for Batman than New York City?  I know, he's technically from Gotham and the Statue of Liberty is cool, but, come on, Batman!  This could even go global with Wolverine in Toronto and maybe Colussus over in Moscow.  Oh, and we could get a statue of James T. Kirk in Des Moines, Iowa and even Han Solo in Coronet.  It's the capital of Corelia.  Hey, if they manage this whole RoboCop thing, anything is possible!

  1. I love this idea! And, while I have nothing against Wonder Woman or Batman, my vote would to for Superman or Captain America in DC and Spidey in NYC.

  2. I was just joking on Twitter this morning about what statue I thought Tallahassee, FL should get. Swamp Thing, Woody Harrelson's Tallahassee character from Zombieland, and John Locke's dad from LOST were all suggestions. Then I realized that Tallahassee already has a Bobby Bowden statue. That pretty much defines this town's priority...football. We'll never get a cool statue. I'll just have to pretend that the Bowden statue is actually a statue of Sheriff J.W. Pepper from Live and Let Die.

  3. @Scott Just think of the Geek Debates that could happen over which statue should go in which city? It would be EPIC!

@CT Oh, I want to see a Swamp Thing statue! That movie scared the bejeezus out of me as a kid.

  4. I am from detroit myself and I have to say I think this is a horrible idea in the long run. The reason I feel this way is that while robo cop stood for good and fought the bad guy in the long run the movies glorified all the bad parts of detroit and made detroit look horrible.
