Superheroes On Broadway?

The buzz the last few days has been all about Spiderman, Turn Off The Dark and the less than stellar preview that ran on Sunday.  It doesn't actually open until January, but by all accounts, unless you were a little kid, the performance was so full of glitches that it was laughable.  Broadway tickets aren't cheap and comic book fans aren't forgiving, neither of which bodes well for the show's success.  I couldn't help but wonder if something like Spiderman is really the best choice for a musical.  He's a web-slinging superhero taking back the city from evil baddies and their assorted minions.  How, exactly, does that translate into song?

TV Finales, I Want Answers!

Last night I finished watching the BBC version of Life on Mars.  I missed it when it originally aired so it's been coming to me a disc at a time through Netflix.  Yesterday, I received the last disc with the final two episodes and I could not wait to pop it into the player.  If you haven't seen the series I strongly suggest you rent the DVDs because it is fantastic.  It's a police procedural, but the twist is that the lead character is a police officer from the present who gets hit by a car and wakes up in the 70's.  He spends each episode solving a crime and trying to figure out if he's alive, dead, dreaming or crazy.  After watching 15 episodes I had high hopes that the final one would explain the truth.  Yea, not so much.

Geek Fangirls FTW!

Here's the thing.  I am a huge Fangirl.  I know, you're really surprised, but given the right circumstances I absolutely become a stuttering fool who smiles and says nothing as someone signs my book, or stops just long enough for me to take their picture.  Actually, they don't even have to stop.  Cameras these days are perfectly capable of taking a crystal clear picture of your favorite star as they make a mad dash through a throng of people to get to their next panel.  I have a picture of Michio Kaku to prove this theory.  Hey, it was at a Con so it's not like I was stalking him or anything.  Mostly.  But that brings me to my point.  When I saw Michio Kaku, braniac, science guy, genius, real-life Sheldon Cooper, I actually squealed out loud.  I am such a Geek Fangirl.

Zombies, Blood and...Ketchup?

I've been watching The Walking Dead on AMC and since I've never read the comic book series, I hold my breath through most of it because I have no idea who lives and who dies.  I am very happy that I've only been able to watch it during the day.  When the sun is out.  And there are no dark corners.  Although, I have to say no matter what time of day it is, if you've been watching a zombie show, then the sound of the ice in your refrigerator ice maker dropping into the little bucket will make you jump.  Still, I recommend checking out this series if your are at all a fan of zombies.  I have one minor complaint. What is up with the ketchup for blood thing?

If Superheroes Were Politicians...

It's election day here in the US which means we're heading out to the polls past smiling supporters holding signs, past bake sale tables full of treats and past reporters full of questions.  Once we've run the gauntlet we head into little booths draped with red, white and blue privacy curtains so we can fill in the ovals and elect our favorite candidates.  At least, that's what we all hope.  A lot of us our filling in a little oval for someone who's going to be congratulating the person he was slinging mud at earlier today.  The arguing and finger-pointing and trying to convince everyone that you're the best candidate and that the other guy is incompetent ends in a nice little speech and a forced smile.  It's so predictable and boring, but what if there were superheroes on the ballot?
