I am typing on my new netbook which is very tiny, but also very black and shiny which makes me happy. Shiny is good. Watch Serenity. I am playing with this shiny, new toy and decide to check out Hulu.com. No overpriced cable for me! Only problem is I can't really watch any of my favorite tv shows because Hubby is out tonight being a geek with his buddies and if I watch a show now, I'll end up watching it again with him and that's just plain boring. So, I am browsing through all the other stuff on Hulu and find movie trailers.
I watch a trailer for a really boring looking movie about an English girl. Most movies that follow the exploits of an English schoolgirl are probably doomed from the start to be boring, Harry Potter excepted. Hermione rocks. I see the Avatar trailer and am all excited, but I watch it and am disappointed. Seems like a lot of overdone CGI of blue people and I had enough blue people to last me a lifetime in Watchmen. Finally I come to a trailer for The Vampire's Assistant. I love vampires, so I watch it.
It feels like a movie geared toward the teen set and when I do a little searching I discover that this is, in fact, based on a series of young adult books called "Cirque du Freak" by Darren Shan. But this trailer is fantastic. The newly-minted vampire boy waits to be dug out of his coffin and passes time playing games on his mobile phone. Nice. And of course there are plenty of clips of vamps snarling and flying through the air. Also nice. I'll have to wait until October 23, 2009 to see the movie so it looks like I'll be heading to the bookstore tomorrow. It's young adult, but so is Harry Potter. I will take a chance!
