Hello World

Everyone blogs.  Okay not everyone.  Up until about 30 seconds ago, I didn't blog.  Now, I'm blogging.  Kinda weird.  Poof.  Just like that I'm a blogger.  Do I get a raise or something?  Because I really think this moment should get some kind of real world recognition for the achievement of, um, turning on the computer and typing some stuff.  Okay, maybe not.  I will be content with toasting myself with another Diet A&W Root Beer.

I love to write.  Making stuff up is fun, because when I make up a world, it's my world.  If I want purple pandas to fly through the air, then I will have purple pandas!  Although, I haven't created a world like that, yet.  I will have to work on that now and am adding it to my bucket list.

I also love jumping into all the wonderful worlds that have already been created.  This I blame firmly on my Dad as he loved science fiction and made sure that I loved it, too.  I asked him for a good book to read in 6th grade and he handed me "I, Robot".  Loved it!  Robots are cool.  Robots with simple yet tricky rules that they must follow, even cooler.  My 6th grade class didn't so much agree with me when I gave the dreaded oral report.  What do they know, bunch of dolts!

So, from that one taste of scifi..BAM..I can't get enough of the stuff.  Books.  Movies.  TV.  Comics.  I find this stuff awesome....except War of the Worlds.  Movie scared the daylights out of me and to this day when it comes on, if I see that alien with the three-glowy-light-head-on-a-tube behind the girl, then I will have nightmares for a month.  Scarred for life on that one.

Yet I persist, and as a child of the 70's I fall in love with Star Wars, and Battlestar Galactica.  And let me just say right now Starbuck is and always will be a cigar-smoking, smooth-talking, ladies man.  Sorry Katee Sackhoff but Dirk Benedict IS Starbuck.  This is a big issue with me...and there you have it...Total Fan Girl at your service.

I am a normal, average person most of the time.  You wouldn't notice me in line at the grocery store, or reading a two month old issue of Time while a mechanic changes my oil, or most anywhere.  I look just like everyone else.  But then, it happens.  Did I just hear someone say Starbuck is better as a woman?  Greedo shot first?  And who the heck ever heard of sparkly vampires?!   And that's what makes a Total Fan Girl.  Regular Jane most days.  Total Fan Girl when the moment stikes.  Han shot first.  Starbuck is a guy.  And Lestat, now there's a vampire!
